Survey: Manufacturing industries' job growth at a 12-year high in FY23

The Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) for 2022-23, released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), showed that the total number of employees in manufacturing industries increased by 7.5 per cent to 1.84 crore in 2022-23 from 1.72 crore in 2021-22.

There is growing evidence to support the belief that the unusual occurrences of extreme air pollution are linked to climate change. 

In a warming world, other than local anthropogenic emissions, rapidly changing climate is an additional uncertainty that requires more rigorous mitigation efforts. 

There is a need to focus on larger airsheds rather than concentrating on individual cities.

AFSPA status quo in Manipur barring areas falling under 19 police stations

The 'Disturbed Area' status under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act will continue to remain in place in all of Manipur except the area under 19 police stations in the state's valley district, with the state government citing "violent activities of various extremist/insurgent groups".

Since 2022, the areas notified as 'Disturbed Areas' had been incrementally reduced and effective from April 1, 2023, it had been withdrawn from the area of these 19 police stations. 

Since the outbreak of the conflict in the state from the very next month, in May 2023, the areas notified as 'Disturbed Areas' have not been reviewed with the state government opting for 'status quo.-

WHY A 'SUICIDE POD' IS UNDER LEGAL SCRUTINY IN SWITZERLAND

Switzerland police last week said that it had opened a criminal case and arrested at least four people in connection with the suspected death of a 64-year-old American woman in a "suicide capsule".

The so-called Sarco pod - from 'sarcophagus', stone coffins used to bury ancient royalty in Egypt, Greece, and Rome was engineered by Philip Nitschke, an Australian physician who founded the pro-euthanasia group Exit International.

RBI FINDS IRREGULAR PRACTICES IN GRANT OF GOLD LOANS

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) asked the gold loan financers to review policies, processes and practices while offering such loans.

The central bank’s direction came after it found major deficiencies in loans offered by supervised entities (SEs) against pledges of gold ornaments and jewellery.
